Rusty Trash to Painted Treasure ~ SIGN
Posted November 18, 2015
I love this sign! I usually paint my signs on repurposed wood but I saw these rounds at a Thrift Store and my weird brain saw the possibilities. As you've read in my previous posts...if you've read them, :) ...I love rust! These are actually metal lids used to seal the heavy cardboard type barrels that I'm sure you've seen around. I saw 3 of them outside the Thrift Store and I brought them back in to get a price and the clerk...bless her heart...said, "well what about $1.00 for all 3 because they're rusty and not good for anything!" Too funny! Apparently, she didn't see the excitement in my face having found a treasure! So, I paid for them and jammed out of there fast before someone asked...."hey, where are those lids for the barrels?"......Whoops!Again....I LOVE THIS ONE! |
This is what I started with and I almost hated to paint over the center but I did. I love the way it turned out but the next 2 will be painted right over the rust then sealed.
I first cleaned off a bit of the rust and then painted over the center with black craft paint...the cheapest kind at WalMart is best since it's flat. Then I printed off the lettering from my computer and used a transfer sheet to trace it onto the metal...then I merely painted with white paint! I distressed it just a little then finished with my favorite Annie Sloan clear wax.
RUSTY ROUND BARREL LIDS...love them! |
I drilled a small hole in the rim and made an easy wire hanger Want to see more creations? Click below to go back to the Vintage Inspiration Party! |
